SIGMA launches 3 lenses for L-Mount and SONY E-Mount mirrorless systems
Today SIGMA has just upped its offering for full-frame mirrorless cameras, revealing a trifecta designed exclusively for the full-frame L-Mount and Sony’s E-mount system. The three models kicking off this new lineup are the 45mm f/2.8 DG DN Contemporary, 35mm f/1.2 DG DN Art, and 14-24mm f/2.8 DG DN Art. “With mirrorless cameras emerging at an accelerated pace, expectations towards lenses suited for high-performance full-frame mirrorless cameras are growing. Unfortunately, many photographers may feel that they have little choices for mirrorless lens systems in terms of performance, size, extensive lineup, and due to the burden of having to use multiple systems. SIGMA has thus developed and proposes this new full-frame mirrorless lens series as the optimal solution to this challenge”
Here’s everything you need to know:
SIGMA 45mm F2.8 DG DN Lens:
The new Sigma 45mm F2.8 DG DN prime lens, from the company’s Contemporary line, is a compact, easy-to-carry unit that is packed with high optical performance features. With beautiful bokeh, thanks to a suppressed spherical aberration that allows for three-dimensional subject impressions, a minimum focusing distance of 24cm (9.4 inches), it’s an ideal all-day lens. It features 8 elements in 7 groups, and a 7-blade rounded diaphragm.
The added high-speed and accurate auto-focus is supported by a stepping motor and features Face and Eye Detection AF. The dust- and splash-proof body features an aperture ring, an easily removable bayonet hood, and full-time manual mode. A high-speed stepping motor improves handling by ensuring photographers and videographers can quickly lock on and track their subjects.
SIGMA 35mm F1.2 DG DN Lens:
The Sigma 35mm F1.2 DG DN is the world’s first autofocusing 35mm f/1.2 lens for full-frame mirrorless and is Sigma’s first f/1.2 lens. A member of the Art series, this 35mm will deliver top-of-the-line image quality through the use of a highly corrected optical design that can resolve over 50MP. The fast f/1.2 aperture then permits for excellent light gathering and extreme control over depth of field.
Furthermore, the lens uses a precise focus-by-wire mechanism connected to a quick and silent Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) to guarantee fast auto and manual focus for stills and video. Additionally, the weather-sealed lens has a physical, de-clickable aperture ring and an AFL button.
SIGMA 14-24mm F2.8 DG DN Lens:
The Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 DG DN is created with star-filled skies in mind. Having been designed for mirrorless, this lens is able to shave size and weight, compared to its SLR counterparts, and guarantee resolution and image quality that make it an ideal pick for astrophotography. It uses low dispersion glass and a Nano Porous Coating to boost image quality further, which control for aberrations and flare. Additionally, it has a fast stepping motor, an AFL button, a weather-sealed construction with water- and oil-repellent coating on the front element, and a rear filter holder.
All these three lenses will be available for purchase between the end of July and the beginning of August, with pre-orders already live at Adorama and B&H Photo. Undoubtedly a great day for Sigma and another proof that the ever-expanding full-frame mirrorless category is growing even stronger. Which of these would you add to your bag?
Product name includes “DG” when the lens is designed to deliver the ultimate in performance on cameras with full-frame sensors, and “DN” when the lens design is optimized for mirrorless cameras with the short flange focal length. The L-Mount Trademark is a registered Trademark of Leica Camera AG.
